No need for a republic

In a letter published in The Sydney Morning Herald, 13 August 2013, under the heading "No need for a republic", David Knowles óf Chittaway Bay NSW warns about a politicians' republic where the powerbrokers  and faceless men not only control the Parliament but also replace the Australian Crown. Mr. Knowles is to be commended for his timely intervention.

"Daily we have letters critical of our politicians (Letters, August 12). We are especially critical of their lust for power at all costs and regardless of the needs of the population. Surely there must be no one in Australia who still wants a republic with a politician as our head of state. It is time we declared the republican movement dead."
