Churchill invited to form govt. 1940

On 10 May 1940, King George VI invited Winston Churchill to form a government of the United Kingdom on the resignation of Neville Chamberlain.

At this time German forces were invading Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg by air and land and had engaged British forces in France.

Soon Britain and the Commonwealth would be almost alone in fighting Hitler until his attack on the USSR and the entry of the US.
