On Sunday, 5 February 2012, ACM members gathered with other royal societies at St George's Cathedral in Perth in Australia's Western capital to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen's accession to the throne.
St George's Cathedral offered a festal evensong to mark the anniversary followed by a champagne reception on the Cathedral's parvis. The evensong was attended by the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker AO QC, Her Majesty’s representative in the State of Western Australia.
The leaders and members of Perth’s many royal associations and foundations attended the event in large numbers. Members of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy were particularly well represented, with a large number of members in attendance.
The evensong service was complete with enthusiastic renditions of 'God Save the Queen', 'Jerusalem' and an exceptional performance by the St Georges Cathedral Choir.
Accession Day is also Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, of which Her Majesty is Queen and Head of State. The Evensong therefore also marked the anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi with members of the New Zealand community of Perth, the singing of the New Zealand national anthem, and prayers (in English and in Maori) for New Zealand and her people.
