“In his inauguration speech President Obama said:’ The question to ask today is not whether government is too big or too small but whether it works’,” J. Kirkpatrick wrote to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph on 24 January, 2009.
“Our present constitution works. That is the message for anyone supporting notions of some vague unspecified republic.”
How right this is. A small but noisy clique have been conducting a campaign to make a fundamental change to one of the world's most successful constitutional systems.
This has little public interest or support.
They can't or they won't say what they are planning to put in its place – and what the new flag will be.
But the taxpayer has been paying millions and millions to subsidise this campaign.
