St John’s Anglican Church in Gordon will honour the Queen at a special service this Sunday.
Although Queen Elizabeth II was born in April 1926, New South Wales will celebrate her 87th birthday next Monday with a public holiday.
2013 also marks 60 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in Westminster Abbey. St John’s Church will hold a special Evensong service this Sunday (9th of June) at 4pm to mark the occasion.
The Cathedral Singers, directed by Jim Abraham, will perform along with organists, Dr Brett McKern and Nicola Chau.
The repertoire will include music sung at the 1953 Coronation:
- Handel Zadok the Priest
- God Save the Queen
- All people that on earth do dwell
A special 60th Anniversary prayer written by Westminster Abbey with the Queen’s authority will be used.
All are welcome. Entry to the service and following Afternoon Tea is free.
St John’s is one of Sydney’s oldest churches and is currently undergoing major improvement works to restore it to its original glory. Amongst the Church’s treasures is a stone from Westminster Abbey.
