Michael Kirby persuaded him

“I recall reading that Anton Chekov described himself as a radical tsarist,” writes John Wylie, of Wagga Wagga, NSW in a letter published under the title “ Kirby’s conservativism” in The Australian (7/2)

 .

"In the same sort of line, I don't think Michael Kirby's support for the monarchy is necessarily an expression of conservatism. ("Reformer Kirby a staunch monarchist", 6/4).

"To label it so is perhaps an act of conservatism in itself, attempting to diminish the indiminishable.

"Kirby has written on how our monarchy allows for greater expression and tolerance within our society than could be achieved under a republic.

"Turned me."
