Prince William has begun a deployment to the Falklands with the Royal Air Force. Argentina, which lays claim to the islands, has protested.
An Argentine government – a dictatorship – invaded the islands in 1982. The British mounted a task force to retake the islands. While the U.S. Navy had considered a successful counter-invasion by the British to be 'a military impossibility', the British were successful in liberating the islands from the invading dictatorship which fell soon after. The people of the Falklands have continued to express their wish to remain British.
