Updates on the October Visit
Excitement is building as Australia prepares to welcome Their Majesties, King Charles and Queen Camilla, for a Royal Visit in October as part of their Spring Tour. This highly anticipated visit will be His Majesty’s first to one of His realms as Monarch, marking a special milestone for the Australian people and for our connection to the Crown.
The King and Queen’s tour will showcase the best of Australia while reflecting some of the key themes central to Their Majesties’ work, including sustainability, healthcare, and community. Their time in Australia will be filled with meaningful engagements across Canberra and Sydney, and they will have the opportunity to connect with Australians from a diversity of backgrounds and walks of life.
One of the highlights of their visit will be in Canberra, where King Charles, as Head of State, will be formally welcomed at Parliament House by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. His Majesty will address a reception attended by prominent Australians from various fields, including health, the arts, sports, and culture. This moment will celebrate the achievements of our nation and the individuals who contribute so much to our society.
In a particularly moving tribute, King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the Australian War Memorial to honour those who have served and sacrificed. They will lay a wreath in remembrance of the Fallen and also pay respects at the ‘For Our Country’ memorial, dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have served in defence of Australia.
The King’s long-standing commitment to sustainability will be a central theme during the tour. He will visit CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, to meet with scientists and firefighters involved in the critical work of combating the bushfires that affect millions of hectares of Australian land each year. King Charles will also tour the National Botanic Gardens, home to the largest living collection of native Australian plants, where he will learn about Indigenous plant use and the impact of climate change on our biodiversity.
On the health front, King Charles will meet with Australians of the Year, Professors Georgina Long and Richard Scolyer, to discuss their groundbreaking work on melanoma, one of Australia’s most common cancers. This is especially poignant, given the King’s own recent experience with cancer treatment.
While King Charles attends these engagements, Queen Camilla will also be busy with a schedule focused on some of her own passions. She will meet children participating in a Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition workshop at a Sydney library, encouraging literacy and the power of writing. In Canberra, the Queen will join discussions on domestic and family violence, meeting with both survivors and experts in the field. Her advocacy in this area has been a consistent and meaningful part of her public work, and her discussions in Australia will shine a light on these important issues.
The visit will conclude with a community BBQ in Western Sydney, where Their Majesties will meet local residents and sample some of New South Wales’ finest regional produce. The event promises to be a cheerful celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity, offering a chance for everyday Australians to connect with the Royal couple.
As we prepare to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla to our shores, this visit provides us with a unique opportunity to reflect on the values that bind Australia and the Crown—respect for history, a shared commitment to community, and a forward-looking approach to sustainability and progress.
